A passenger plane crashed into the sea in Russia
MOSCOW (Reuters) – A missing Russian passenger plane has crashed in the Kamchatka Peninsula, killing all on board.
According to the international news agency, the Antonio 26 turbo plane, which was going to feed a village from Petropavlovsk Kamchatsky, the regional capital of Russia, had lost contact with the control tower. The twin-engine passenger plane had 22 passengers and six crew members on board.
A search operation was launched after the plane went missing, during which rescue personnel in a helicopter found some remains of the wreckage on the sea surface of the eastern peninsula of Kamchatka. Rescue boats were dispatched to the wreckage.
Mayor Olga Kokereva was also present on the 1982 plane. A search operation is underway, but no human remains have been found so far. It is feared that all on board have been killed.
The cause of the crash has not yet been determined, but according to the Meteorological Department, the weather in the area was cloudy, which could have been the cause of the crash.
