Breastfeeding protects women from heart disease
NEW YORK: The good news for breastfeeding mothers is that while it has many great benefits, it can also protect against heart disease and stroke.
The American Heart Association said in its research journal that they conducted research on pregnancy, motherhood and maternal illness and found that breastfeeding is very beneficial for the baby on the one hand and heart disease on the other. Also keeps away from blood pressure, diabetes and stroke.
The benefits of breastfeeding for both mother and baby have been evident in the past. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), regular infants are protected from respiratory diseases, deaths and other infections. This benefits the mother herself and protects her against a variety of cancers, including breast cancer.
The study was conducted by Dr. Peter Wiley and colleagues at Innsbruck Medical University in Austria. They have also looked at pre-existing databases, scientific literature and other evidence.
The first eight surveys were conducted in 1986 and 2009, covering a wide range of countries. Thus, the data of 1.2 million women came to light. When women first became mothers, the average age was 25 and they were kept in touch for many years.
The tenth year of research found that if a woman breastfed her baby regularly, her risk of heart disease and death could be reduced by 17% and her risk of stroke by 12%. But doctors insist that women continue this routine for at least a year.
If she continues to breastfeed for longer than that, the benefits can be just as great. Experts urge all mothers to continue breastfeeding for their own and their baby’s health.
