Customs action seizes alcohol-laden launch
Pakistan Customs Preventive Anti-Smuggling foiled an attempt to smuggle alcohol into the country on a large scale in an operation on the high seas.
Chief Collector Saifuddin Junejo told a press conference yesterday that for the first time, Customs conducted a successful operation on the high seas individually without any agency and foiled an attempt to smuggle a large consignment of liquor from Dubai and seized a liquor-laden launch. 9432 bottles of foreign liquor worth Rs. 17 crore were recovered from the seized launch.
Customs officials also seized a boat worth Rs 2 crore involved in liquor smuggling, however, the smugglers took advantage of the darkness of the night and fled, 725 beer cans were also recovered from the launch, launch owners and suspects were arrested. The strategy is being clarified.
