Electricity prices likely to rise by 65 paise per unit
According to sources, electricity prices are likely to increase by 65 paisa per unit. The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has filed an application with the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) seeking an increase in electricity prices for February. The request for increase in electricity prices has been made in the form of monthly fuel adjustment.
The petition said that 6.99 billion units of electricity was generated in February at a total cost of Rs. 33.57 billion. Out of this, electricity worth Rs. 92 crore was generated on furnace oil. Thus, in February, the most expensive electricity was generated on furnace oil at Rs 11.89 per unit.
CPPA also requested to transfer 16 paise per unit of line losses to the customers. NEPRA will hear the request for increase in electricity prices on March 30.
