Mexico Increased trend of ‘online’ facility for home abortion
MEXICO CITY: Due to the outbreak of abortion in many states and the Corona epidemic, women in Mexico are preferring abortion at home rather than in hospitals, for which there is a tendency to seek help from WhatsApp.
According to the international news agency, abortion has been declared illegal in 30 states of Mexico, after which women are preferring abortion at home. Medicines are available from medical stores and direct instructions from doctors or staff are also sought through the WhatsApp for medical advice.
Maria Manoj, a 26-year-old journalist, faced a similar situation in Mexico City. Due to the ban on abortion and strict security measures in hospitals due to corona, she also performed abortions at home by taking direct instructions from experts on WhatsApp. This WhatsApp group includes doctors and paramedical staff from all walks of life, including psychologists.
Speaking to Al Jazeera, Maria said that even in states where abortion is allowed, pregnant women seeking abortion face attacks by right-wing extremists in clinics and hospitals. That’s why women consider online a safe way.
Maria was told by a friend about the WhatsApp group “Abortion Companion”. Maria was sent “infographics” to find out about her medical condition and information on the availability of drugs, their use, side effects and diet.
In Mexico, a large number of women seeking treatment for gynecological diseases are now satisfied with online networks that offer everything from counseling to treatment, but medical experts say the WhatsApp group is a specialist doctor and physical checkup. There is no substitute for your blessing
