Sheikh Ayaz University Vice Chancellor resigns over alleged pressure
Dr. Raza Bhatti, Vice Chancellor of Sheikh Ayaz University, Shikarpur, Sindh, has resigned prematurely due to pressure from some political circles and rejection of the university’s master plan. He had two and a half years left in his term.
Dr. Raza Bhatti is the Founding Vice Chancellor of Sheikh Ayaz University, Shikarpur. The University was earlier functioning as the campus of Shah Latif University, Khairpur, after which it was given the status of a University 2 years ago. He resigned from the post of Executive Director of the Commission of Pakistan and joined Sheikh Ayaz University as Vice Chancellor. He was appointed in July 2019 for 4 years.
He had differences with a political figure of Sindh on university lands and he was not ready to give the university lands to the concerned political figure for use due to which the pressure on him was increasing day by day.
Another source said that the master plan of the university was also rejected by an unelected minister of Sindh after which Dr. Raza Bhatti sent his resignation to Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, the controlling authority of government universities in the province.
When contacted by Express, Dr. Raza Bhatti, Founder Vice Chancellor of Sheikh Ayaz University Shikarpur, confirmed his resignation and said that he had sent his resignation to the Chief Minister of Sindh through the Universities and Boards Department. He denied reports that he was under pressure from a political figure over university land.
Dr. Raza Bhatti said that he has resigned from the post of Vice Chancellor due to his personal reasons. He said that there were similar problems in the university which could be faced by any new university. I have built many new universities while living in HEC but I have resigned from Sheikh Ayaz University Shikarpur for my personal reasons.
