Short-term breaks can improve employee performance, research shows
BUCHAREST: A new study suggests that the trend of taking short breaks during work can potentially improve employee performance.
For the past few weeks, TikTok has been under the influence of a trend called ‘Quite Quitting’, in which young employees are doing minimal work to avoid mental fatigue. Experts are criticizing this trend. Some experts have called it a temporary solution.
However, researchers at the West University of Timevara in Romania found in a study that taking short breaks during work hours can increase your energy and reduce fatigue.
In the study, published in the journal PLOS ONE, the researchers wrote that short breaks were effective in conserving large amounts of energy and reducing fatigue, while short-term breaks did not affect performance as much as long-term breaks.
Based on the findings of the study, the researchers suggest that bosses should offer a mix of short-term and long-term breaks to their employees. In this study, researchers looked at the effects of short-term breaks during work and reviewed 22 studies.
It should be noted that short-term time refers to a period of 10 minutes or less.
